Our newest book is in stock and we will autograph it and ship it by priority mail. We charge actual shipping cost with no extra handling fee and we ship the next day. Check out Haunted America Speaks at www.ghostweb.com/vol1.html .

Brad Steiger wrote the Forward to Haunted America Speaks, saying, “Prepare to experience a few shivers when you follow Dave Oester and Sharon Gill along shadowy corridors and into moonlit cemeteries in search of real ghosts--the ones that exist in reality, not on the movie screen. But have no fear. These experienced and intelligent ghost hunters will bring you a great deal of inspiration and awareness, as well as a few authentic shudders.” Brad Steiger has written over 160 books on the paranormal and considered the foremost authority on the paranormal.

This is a good time to begin one of our home study courses. Spring is around the corner and summer is just down the road. What better way to begin your investigations than by completing our comprehensive and second to none course on ghost research, working with people who have lost loved ones and finally on recording and analyzing ghost voices. Check out our list of courses at http://www.ghostweb.com/mainhsc.html.

Last year at this time we were experiencing the heat of summer, the rattlesnakes were out crawling along the desert floor so we abandoned our rock hounding due to our sightings of a three foot rattler. This year, the weather has been cool and wet; we have many days of windy gusts hitting the 40 and 50 mph range. Our only major concern has been our satellite Internet disk that is weighted down with six jugs of water suspended from a bungee cord.  As long as we have electricity, we have access to the broadband Internet and compared to last year when we were using the slow Verizon 14.4 kbps Internet access, we are in hog heaven.

We are in Milan, New Mexico waiting for our Priority Mail package mailed from our Mail Forwarding Service from Deming, New Mexico, a mere six hours driving distance from here. So far, it has been 12 days since it was mailed and it still has not arrived. We will continue to remain here until the package arrives. This is one reason we have elected to change our Mail Forwarding Address to the new one in Las Vegas, Nevada. They offer a better selection of services for shipping mail to us.

Life can have so many “joys” while on the road, such as thinking that the Post Office has lost, or I should say rerouted our Priority Mail package to who-knows-where which has become a lesson in patience. Now I hear that the Post Office is raising the cost of stamps the first of the year, it is a good thing it was not put up to a vote of the people, as my own personal experience is that the quality of service has deteriorated while the cost has increased. That seems to be the nature of things in this day and age.

Once we receive our package, we will be on the move again. We are busy completing the final chapters in books 3 and 4 of the series we are writing. This is the month that both books have to be completed and sent to our publisher in June. At that time, we will start Book 5 on the Ghosts of Gettysburg that is due in December. Next year I do not believe we will commit to so many books.

In a few days we will be visiting Vila de Cubero, which is a small community located under the shadow of Mt. Taylor, some twenty five miles east of Grants.  The town’s call to fame is that Ernest Hemingway lived there for a short time while writing his story, "Old Man and the Sea." I understand that the Trading Post is still open and still serves the local population and there is an old cemetery not far away. I also understand when you view old town Cubero; it is like stepping back into time with all of the old adobe buildings and houses. The town of Cubero lies at the edge of the Laguna Indian Reservation.

I do want to talk about an issue that many ghost hunters may not fully understand and that deals with taking photographs of houses from the ground level and then seeing something in one of the upstairs windows when the photograph is blown up. We all want to see an apparition standing in the window, but we must understand the reality of what is taking place within this window.

The problem develops when the pixel resolution deteriorates when enlarged. The deteriorated pixels are low resolution meaning that strange shapes occur when insufficient pixels are present. Now combine this with the reflective nature of glass when viewed at an angle that causes the viewer to see all kinds of human shaped anomalies. The window is glass and glass is reflective when viewed at an angle.

One of the basic premises of Occam’s razor is that, “All things being equal, the simplest answer is best.” The simplest answer when viewing reflective glass at an angle is that the image is a reflection of something outside of the window, such as trees, clouds or some other natural regularity being reflected. The same concerns are expressed when shooting through glass or Plexiglas. The flash going off will cause ecto patterns to be observed as is the case in the Whaley House in San Diego.

As ghost researchers, we should look for the simplest, most natural answers to explain the anomaly. If we cannot explain he anomaly then at that point we can consider it to be of a paranormal nature. Now when I say we can explain it by a simple explanation, I do not mean the manner that debunkers suggest simple answers. The answers must be logical and consistent with the event. An explanation that is valid only in theory, but the odds of it occurring being remote is not what I am suggesting. I have heard my share of lame brain explanations that compare to putting a thousand monkeys in front of a typewriter and sometime down the road one of the monkeys will type out a Shakespearean play.

Happy trails.

Dr. Sharon’s Notes:
It is very difficult to know what to say to people who have lost a loved one. We can only imagine their pain, as each person feels pain differently just as each of us works through the grief of loss in our own way and in our own time. There is no time frame to work through grief but it is essential that we work through and not try to avoid it. A friend once told me that should I not work through the grief of my husband’s death, it would appear one day and I would have to work through it when it did. It is one of those things that will remain dormant until we face it and deal with it, regardless of how long we decide to wait.

What can be equally as hard is knowing someone who has lost a beloved pet. People, who have pets, adore them and accept them as part of their everyday lives. To some, a pet is like a child as our pets depend on us for their needs to be met, they require attention and love every day and in return they give us unconditional love and devotion. For those who parent animals, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

It is a sad day indeed when we lose a pet. We mourn the loss, like losing a family member. We feel the loss, every moment of every single day as each part of the home is a reminder of the pet we endeared. The bond of love with our pets is strong and for those who have no immediate family or children in their homes, the death of a pet is even more devastating. A special part of their lives is gone.

Something many people may not know is that a pet dog will mourn the passing of his or her master as well. When we were conducting an investigation at a cemetery in Bend, Oregon a few years ago, we came upon a dog, lying beside a recent burial site. He looked so forlorn as he lay there as if he had come to mourn the loss of his master. Apparently he returned daily just to lie beside the grave.

During other investigations that we have conducted, we have captured the mournful howling of dogs at times. Though we hear no sounds, the recorder captures the heart wrenching howls of a dog that has lost someone dear. One place in particular was the site of the alleged murders of a pioneer family. The bond of love is strong and surpasses death, just as it does with humans.

When our pets cross over, their spirits remain with us for a time. As in life, they need to know we are doing okay. Similar to the death of a loved one who tries to let us know they are happy  by doing things they know we will recognize and relate to them, pets often will do the same. They want us to know they are free from whatever it was that took them from this physical life, yet they have transition into a far happier realm of existence, free from pain.

We mourn the loss of their physical presence and it is unfortunate that our pets do not have the length of life that we do, so we may lose many pets during our lifetimes. What is even sadder is the fact that we do not understand death or what occurs after the physical bodies are shed. To some, they expertly say that since animals have not souls, they cross into darkness, into a nothingness which leaves us feeling like they are gone forever. If this is something that is true or something that you might believe to be true, I would suggest you go into the gallery of photographs that we have and check out the pictures of ghost pets that have been captured over the years by pet owners. Listen to the EVP we have posted of the dogs howling that are so sad, I guarantee goose bumps.

There is far more to life than what we experience on this plane of existence and that also can be said for those wonderful creatures that we love and snuggle, play with and pet, hold dear to our hearts and care for in this life. I wondered when I lost my little Yorkshire terrier if she would be lost and alone in darkness on the other side. She meant everything to me and she gave me fourteen precious years with her before she had to go. Since she passed over, we have recorded her bark, felt her presence and I have seen her very clearly. I know from all indications that she is free of her diseased physical body, she is free to go forward and do it in happiness. I also know that she comes back to see us once in a while and for me, her little signs that she is doing fine helped me to get through the grieving. She remains within my heart and my memories where she is very much alive and well, though she is no longer physically present.

Some very special people have just lost a special little dog that was very much a part of their lives. They loved her and she gave them nine years of joy. She was diagnosed with cancer and her life was cut shorter than these folks had imagined. The two of them came to a crossroads they never expected and had to make a choice for their precious little friend. They chose, in love, though it was very painful for them, to help end the suffering their dog was facing. They chose to let her gently go into a peaceful sleep and make the transition into a realm of comfort and happiness without the pain the cancer was causing. Our hearts go out to them during their time of loss and grief and for them; we would like to reprint the special story of Rainbow Bridge.

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge
by M. A. Preston.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Happy Haunting!
